Questions about becoming an archaeologist

What's the hardest thing about being an archaeologist?

Dr. dig responds:
Being an archaeologist is so exciting because there is no telling what interesting artifact might come to light in the next shovelful of earth. And an archaeologist's job is never boring because there are so many different things to do on an excavation. But if I had to think of something I didn't like about being an archaeologist, I guess I would have to say that I wish I could skip the sore muscles and stiff fingers I get the first day or two after the beginning of a new season of excavation. digging, kneeling, and gripping a trowel is hard work, and require muscle work a body isn't normally used to. But a few sore muscles for a couple of days is a small price to pay for the thrill of discovery!

Would I change my job? Probably not - I like the variety, the outdoor work and the thrill of discovery. I also enjoy working with a team. In the field of archaeology we all must learn to get along with one another in spite of personal differences. Getting along with other people and learning that we all share a common past is what makes life worth living and gives it meaning!
