Questions about becoming an archaeologist

What do archaeologists do from the time they get up until they go to bed?

Dr. dig responds:
Well, that's not an easy question to answer because there are many different kinds of archaeologists, just as there are many different kinds of doctors, teachers, construction workers.

Some archaeologists (like me) do a number of different jobs at different times of the year. They may teach in universities during the school year, and then during the summer months go off to do field work on an excavation somewhere. Others may work in museums or for the government. I teach part-time, write for dig part-time (and answer questions on the web) and do fieldwork and research in the summers.

What I can tell you is that very few archaeologists have an office job from 9 to 5. Most archaeologists that I know work long hours and on the weekends, and do a lot outdoors.

Archaeologists also eat healthy breakfasts and get a good night's sleep so they can do their best the next day!
