Questions about becoming an archaeologist

I was wondering, what could I do now to get started in the field of archaeology, my future career?

Dr. dig responds:

Being an archaeologist is a great career and I love it! Archaeologists are adventurers and travelers and they also love history and languages - both ancient and modern. Archaeologists are creative but they also are very clear thinking and organized.

To become an archaeologist, you will have to study subjects like history, science and language and do well in them. You should visit museums, historical places and monuments.

Archaeologists also care a lot about preserving places of historical and archaeological interest for the future. They are good conservationists, who care as much about the world's future as about its past. Read books, travel, and be a good steward for archaeology. Good luck in your future career as an archaeologist!

(Posted by reader Laurel) I would personally start off with reading about it. First I would start off with finding general info about archaeology. Then I would start getting a little more specific about what your most interested in archaeology, like where you think you would want to study it or if you would actually want to go on a dig or just study the stuff they find on digs. I'm not sure of your age but I imagine you have a ways to go before you ever become an archaeologist and you have a lot of decisions to make ahead of time but I think it's great that you are interested in learning about it this early!
