How did the Cro-Magnon people communicate? What do the archaeological
finds tell us?

Dr. dig responds:
The Upper Palaeolithic (late Old Stone Age) Cro-Magnon people were
anatomically similar to modern man -- they were tall, with long skulls, high
foreheads, and wide faces. There is no reason to believe that they did not
have advanced language skills, but of course this does not show up in the
archaeological record. Some archaeologists believe that their successful
survival in ice-age conditions was due to their ability to communicate. They
were certainly good artists, decorating cave walls and carving figurines.
