Questions about Egypt

What types of problems do Egyptologists face?

Dr. dig responds:
Egypt is great for archaeologists because the hot dry climate helps preserve artifacts so well. But the hot dry climate can be unbearable when you're digging. The scorching sun can beat down very hard at mid-day, and digging gets to be pretty hot work. There are natural dangers as well, such as snakes, scorpions, and disease-carrying mosquitoes. But what archaeologists fear most, not only in Egypt, but wherever there are well-preserved archaeological remains, is looting and vandalism. Popular sites like those found in Egypt are prime targets for looters who work at night and rob archaeological sites of precious remains that they can sell to collectors. Looters and vandals not only take the most valuable artifacts, but in doing so they can also damage or destroy the site as well.
