Questions about Egypt
Did Romans settle in Egypt?
Dr. dig responds:
Egypt passed into Roman hands in 30 B.C., and gradually became Romanized, although many Egyptian cultural practices continued long afterwards, such as mummification (an excellent example of which is the recent discovery of the most glorious Roman mummies found at Bahiriya in Egypt). Egypt was an important province for the Romans, especially because it produced large quantities of grain, which was then exported to Rome.
