Questions about Egypt

Is the story of The Mummy real?

Dr. dig responds:
The recent movie, The Mummy, is based on a movie that was first made in 1932 with Boris Karloff, who was a famous movie star. The recent release, like the 1932 movie, is based on an actual historical figure, named Imhotep. But the real Imhotep was not an evil priest, and he was not doomed to suffer the "curse of the mummy." Imhotep was in fact the royal architect for King Djser, who commissioned him to design the first monumental Steppe Pyramid at Saqqara in Egypt. He was an esteemed wiseman, astronomer and mathematician. After his death, he was buried in the vicinity of King Djser's pyramid (which can be visited by tourists today) and later worshipped as a god.
