Questions about becoming an archaeologist

I was reading my DIG, the one about the temple in Petra and it said the temple was made out of living rock! Can you tell me what the difference is between living rock and just rock?
   Tommy, Cincinati, Ohio

Dr. dig responds:
Living rock is a confusing term, which archaeologists use when they are describing rock, which has not been mined or in any way separated from the ground. The Petra temple is carved into the rock face, not built from blocks of stone.
