To whom was the first temple at Olympia dedicated?
Dr. dig responds:
The Temple of Hera at Olympia, called the Heraion, is a Doric temple dated to the end of the 7th century B.C. There is another temple at Olympia dedicated to Zeus that is dated to 470-450 B.C.
The Heraion is one of the oldest examples of monumental temple structures in Greek architecture. Originally made of wood, it was a richly ornamented building with a three-aisled cella where the statues of Hera and Zeus once stood.
