Questions about Greece and Rome

Were there female gladiators?

Dr. dig responds:
The remains of a female gladiator were discovered in a burial found near the river Thames in London. Specialists at the Museum of London believe that this may be the first discovery of a woman gladiator's grave anywhere in the world.

Archaeologists think she is a gladiator because of the artifacts discovered with the body, including several vessels decorated with images of gladiators, as well as evidence of a feast that took place at the site which marked the burial ceremony as a special event, possibly that of a gladiator's burial.
