Can you send me some info on the Ozette dig near Neah Bay?
Dr. dig responds:
Here are two useful websites for you to browse in your research on the Ozette site in Washington State and the Makah.
www.makah.com/museum.htm
This is the website for the Makah Cultural Research Center where there is on exhibit many artifacts from the Makah's ancestral village of
Ozette. The website will direct you to resources and information pertaining to Makah history and culture with a full bibliography. Perhaps
you could write to the museum at the address they give you for postcards and posters of the archaeological site of Ozette.
The other great website is:
www.learningspace.org/instruct/jr_high/projects/bgilbert/makah.htm
This website was created by a 7th grade class in Washington. The page will lead you to a world of information about the Makah, the
archaeological site, its history and culture, with some photos.
If there's a chance that you can get ahold of the book, Eyewitness to Discovery by Brian Fagan, you will find in it a short biography of the
excavator of Ozette, Richard Daugherty, and a popular account of his discovery--it makes a great story.
